CORVUS AND THE BAKUNAWA // 12"X24" PAINTING
This piece was inspired by the Corvus [crow] constellation. This constellation is depicted as a raven perched atop Hydra, the water snake constellation below it. As a native Floridian, I opted to specifically use the fish crow as it’s a fellow Floridian.
To honor my Filipino roots, I chose the Bakunawa in lieu of Hydra. The bakunawa is a serpent-like dragon in Philippine mythology that is believed to be the cause of eclipses. The dragon wraps the scene with native Floridian flowers (Southern Magnolias and Moonflowers) as well as cypress branches.
12x24” // Acrylic paint on mounted canvas
